چکیده

Background: Mechanical forces and ErbB receptors are critical for fetal lung development. Results: Deletion of ErbB1 or downregulation or ErbB4 prevented stretchinduced type II cell differentiation via ERK. Conclusion: Interactions between ErbB1 and ErbB4 are critical for stretch-induced type II cell differentiation. Significance: Learning how mechanical signal regulate fetal lung development is critical to develop strategies to accelerate lung maturation.

A role for caveolin-1 in mechanotransduction of fetal type II epithelial cells.

Mechanical forces are critical for fetal lung development. Using surfactant protein C (SP-C) as a marker, we previously showed that stretch-induced fetal type II cell differentiation is mediated via the ERK pathway. Caveolin-1, a major component of the plasma membrane microdomains, is important as a signaling protein in blood vessels exposed to shear stress. Its potential role in mechanotransdu...

Betacellulin-Induced Beta Cell Proliferation and Regeneration Is Mediated by Activation of ErbB-1 and ErbB-2 Receptors

BACKGROUND Betacellulin (BTC), a member of the epidermal growth factor family, is known to play an important role in regulating growth and differentiation of pancreatic beta cells. Growth-promoting actions of BTC are mediated by epidermal growth factor receptors (ErbBs), namely ErbB-1, ErbB-2, ErbB-3 and ErbB-4; however, the exact mechanism for beta cell proliferation has not been elucidated. T...

Paving new paths for neuregulin-1-assisted cardiac regenerative medicine. Focus on "Improving murine embryonic stem cell differentiation into cardiomyocytes with neuregulin-1: differential expression of microRNA".

THE PLURICELLULARITY OF THE HEART, allowing an intense communication among cells and cell types in the myocardial tissue, has long been recognized (2). Adaptations within this communication network, mostly between endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and cardiomyocytes, are part of the autoregulatory properties of the heart during its role as the hemodynamic pump in the cardiovascular system, and pa...

A hierarchical network of interreceptor interactions determines signal transduction by Neu differentiation factor/neuregulin and epidermal growth factor.

The ErbB family includes four homologous transmembrane tyrosine kinases. Whereas ErbB-1 binds to the epidermal growth factor (EGF), both ErbB-3 and ErbB-4 bind to the Neu differentiation factors (NDFs, or neuregulins), and ErbB-2, the most oncogenic family member, is an orphan receptor whose function is still unknown. Because previous lines of evidence indicated the existence of interreceptor i...

Expression of ErbB receptors during pancreatic islet development and regrowth.

We have characterized expression of the ErbB receptor family and one of its ligands, heregulin, in an effort to identify molecules associated with pancreatic development and regeneration. In addition to studying expression during fetal pancreatic development, we have also studied expression during pancreatic regeneration in the interferon-gamma (IFNgamma)-transgenic mouse, which exhibits signif...
